Dusit Thani College Advances Hospitality Education Through Innovative Hotel Business Simulation

26 June 2026

As the hospitality industry becomes increasingly data-driven, future leaders must be equipped with the skills to interpret information, evaluate complex business scenarios, and make informed decisions that drive organizational performance.

To address this challenge, Dusit Thani College is introducing the Hospitality Intelligence Operations Simulation (HIOS), an innovative hotel business simulation developed by Ajarn Chatchai Pongprapat. The simulation creates a realistic hotel operating environment where students make strategic decisions across multiple business functions, including pricing, staffing, compensation, marketing, and promotions. The platform then simulates the resulting business outcomes, allowing students to measure performance and benchmark their results against competing teams within the same virtual market.

To support the implementation of this technology-enhanced learning tool, Ajarn Chatchai conducted a two-day faculty development workshop on 16–17 June 2026, bringing together lecturers from the Faculties of Hospitality Management, Business Administration, and General Education. Through hands-on simulation exercises and collaborative discussions, participants explored opportunities to integrate HIOS into existing courses and strengthen students’ critical thinking, analytical capability, and decision-making skills.

According to Simon Lloyd, Advisor to the Dean of the Faculty of Hospitality Management and the Center of Business Administration and General Education, “The hospitality industry our graduates are entering today is dramatically different from the one that existed just five years ago. Knowledge is now widely accessible, and employers increasingly value professionals who can analyse information, justify decisions, and respond effectively to changing business conditions. Our responsibility is to prepare students for that reality and give them opportunities to develop these capabilities before they enter the industry.”

The initiative reflects Dusit Thani College’s commitment to educational innovation through technology-enhanced learning. By integrating advanced simulation technology into the curriculum, the college continues to strengthen its hospitality and culinary arts programmes, providing authentic learning experiences that prepare graduates for the evolving demands of the global hospitality industry.

Dusit Thani College is proud to announce that its students have once again placed among the top three at the ALLiance Sustainability in Hospitality Contest, organized by The Alliance Network in partnership with Relais & Châteaux — marking the second consecutive year the College has reached the podium in this international competition. In the 2026 edition, Ms. Purimprat Pradit, Ms. Isabella Marissa Stacy, and Mr. Pokin Puntu, first-year students from the International Hospitality Management and Professional Culinary Arts International programs — secured 2nd Runner-Up with Nai Mõng – Real Taste from the Countryside, a premium family dining concept rooted in the culinary traditions of Phatthalung, Southern Thailand. The project reimagines authentic Southern Thai cuisine through sustainably sourced, seasonal ingredients and a modern interpretation of local culinary heritage, inviting guests to experience sustainability not as a compromise but as part of an immersive, memorable dining journey. As 2nd Runner-Up, competing in their very first international competition, the team received a €200 voucher courtesy of Relais & Châteaux, an official certificate of achievement, and the opportunity to present their concept to the Relais & Châteaux CSR team. This year's result builds on a strong showing in 2025, when Dusit Thani College swept both 1st place (SHINRAI, a zero-waste culinary concept blending Japanese technique with Thai ingredients) and 2nd place (Re-leaf, a regenerative eco-wellness farm stay concept) in the contest's inaugural edition, triumphing over competitors from all 22 member countries of The Alliance Network at the time. The ALLiance Sustainability in Hospitality Contest challenges Hospitality and Culinary Arts students from Alliance member institutions — spanning more than 20 countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa — to design innovative concepts that turn sustainability into an engaging, rewarding guest experience across its environmental, social, and economic dimensions, judged by a panel of industry professionals and sustainability experts. Two years running, students from Dusit Thani College's international program have proven that Thai culinary talent and sustainable thinking can consistently stand out on a global stage.
