Dusit Thani College collaborates with the Embassy of Peru holding a culinary challenge to celebrate 60 years of Thailand-Peru diplomacy

10 April 2025

In 2025, the diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Republic of Peru meet the 60th anniversary. In order to celebrate this occasion, the Embassy of Peru in Thailand has partnered with Dusit Thani College, Thailand’s leading hospitality education subsidiary to Dusit International, to co-organize a culinary and mixology competition with the theme “Flavors of the Peru – Thailand Fusion Challenge” on 9 April 2025 at Dusit Thani College, Bangkok.

In the midst of the multiculturalism of today’s world society, diversity in cultures, languages, religions, ethnicities, or lifestyle makes each country become distinctive through different favors, thoughts, and attitudes. There is a tool that can be used to connect each different preference together: “food”. Therefore, exchanging food culture among one another has become an important strategy for bonding international relations. On this occasion when the identical Peruvian cuisine is grabbing the global attention, the Embassy of Peru in Thailand has taken the initiative to organize a fusion F&B competition between Peru and Thailand together with Dusit Thani College as of being an outstanding educational partner in Thailand with expertise in culinary arts and hospitality education.

“Flavors of the Peru – Thailand Fusion Challenge” is an internal competition for Dusit Thani College students which features two categories: creative fusion Peruvian – Thai Dish and creative fusion Peruvian – Thai Cocktail. The Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to Thailand was honored to be one of the exclusive judges, together with delegates from the Embassy of Peru in Thailand, Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Chef Au – Sittikorn Chantop, an alumnus of Dusit Thani College who currently owns a Michelin-starred restaurant AKKEE.

H.E. Ms. Cecilia Z. Galarreta Bazán, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to Thailand, stated that “This competition is a great opportunity to showcase our shared creativity and passion for food, as well as to combine elements of Peruvian cuisine and Thai recipes. I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to Dusit Thani College for organizing many great events with the Embassy of Peru, including this one. I hope that there will be other collaborations in the future to strengthen our relationship. Moreover, we are celebrating our 60th anniversary of Thailand-Peru diplomacy this year, so this competition is another important event to honor this occasion.”

Dr. Atthawet Prougestaporn, Rector of Dusit Thani College, rejoiced in the 60th anniversary of Thailand-Peru diplomacy and stated that Dusit Thani College was dedicated to uniting the world as one through food culture. Hence, the competition as a means of intercultural learning and harmony. The students also benefited from this event learning Thai and Peruvian food cultures.

The results of the competition are as follows: Ms. Pimpattra Pimpaporn and Ms. Rungtiwa Lamaikae were the winners of creative fusion Peruvian – Thai Dish category and Mr. Jirapirom Chaiya was the winner of creative fusion Peruvian – Thai Cocktail category. Apart from the award, the certificate, and the exclusive dining voucher for a Peruvian restaurant, the winners are also esteemed to make and serve their winning menus to the guests of Peruvian National Day Ceremony at the Embassy on 24 July 2025 as well.

Dusit Thani College is proud to announce that its students have once again placed among the top three at the ALLiance Sustainability in Hospitality Contest, organized by The Alliance Network in partnership with Relais & Châteaux — marking the second consecutive year the College has reached the podium in this international competition. In the 2026 edition, Ms. Purimprat Pradit, Ms. Isabella Marissa Stacy, and Mr. Pokin Puntu, first-year students from the International Hospitality Management and Professional Culinary Arts International programs — secured 2nd Runner-Up with Nai Mõng – Real Taste from the Countryside, a premium family dining concept rooted in the culinary traditions of Phatthalung, Southern Thailand. The project reimagines authentic Southern Thai cuisine through sustainably sourced, seasonal ingredients and a modern interpretation of local culinary heritage, inviting guests to experience sustainability not as a compromise but as part of an immersive, memorable dining journey. As 2nd Runner-Up, competing in their very first international competition, the team received a €200 voucher courtesy of Relais & Châteaux, an official certificate of achievement, and the opportunity to present their concept to the Relais & Châteaux CSR team. This year's result builds on a strong showing in 2025, when Dusit Thani College swept both 1st place (SHINRAI, a zero-waste culinary concept blending Japanese technique with Thai ingredients) and 2nd place (Re-leaf, a regenerative eco-wellness farm stay concept) in the contest's inaugural edition, triumphing over competitors from all 22 member countries of The Alliance Network at the time. The ALLiance Sustainability in Hospitality Contest challenges Hospitality and Culinary Arts students from Alliance member institutions — spanning more than 20 countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa — to design innovative concepts that turn sustainability into an engaging, rewarding guest experience across its environmental, social, and economic dimensions, judged by a panel of industry professionals and sustainability experts. Two years running, students from Dusit Thani College's international program have proven that Thai culinary talent and sustainable thinking can consistently stand out on a global stage.
