During 22-28 July 2024, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) has collaborated with governmental and private alliance network to arrange MHESI Fair: SCI POWER FOR FUTURE THAILAND or “MHESI Fair” at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC).
“MHESI Fair” exhibits a great deal of multidisciplinary development among sciences, research, technology, and innovation. There were such educational activities being displayed in this event ranging from technological innovations by Thai and international creators, innovative products and services by startups and entrepreneurs to merchandise stalls selling award-winning research-based items. It also showcased the talk-of-the-town Thailand’s Soft Power, especially Soft Power in educational institutions.
Absolutely, the most powerful Soft Power of Thailand is food. Under its core value, Thai food features various distinctive perspectives such as the art of carving. Specifically, Thai fruit and vegetable carving is considered another Soft Power that perfectly reflects Thainess and its identical exquisiteness is hard for other countries to replicate. Thinking about Thainess in tourism and hospitality industry, Dusit Thani Hotel might be a brand that comes up very firstly in mind. As well as Dusit Thani College, an educational institution under Dusit’s umbrella, the place is renowned for skills and knowledge which clearly reflect Thainess, for example, fruit and vegetable carving.
Therefore, on 24 July 2024, Dusit Thani College was invited to demonstrate a delicate showcase “Implementation of fruit and vegetable carving” by fermentation, pickling, and sweetening on a Mini Stage in “MHESI Fair”, represented by Ajarn Pawana Chanmala, Fruit and Vegetable Carving Instructor.
Fruit and vegetable carving is an elective subject which can be picked by both Culinary Arts and Hotel management students at Dusit Thani College. This underlines that everyone is able to upskill oneself with Thai unique knowledge which can lead to their professional careers.
In addition to Soft Power being a powerful tool for global tourism, learning such related knowledge and skills will provide learners with many alternatives in their work lives.
