Exploring the Heart of Hong Kong: A Memorable College Trip

03 April 2024

Story by Ms. Preraya Ongartsuebsakul

Embarking on my first journey to Hong Kong was nothing short of exhilarating, especially knowing it was a college trip filled with four days packed with activities and adventures. From iconic landmarks to immersive educational experiences, each moment in this bustling city left an indelible mark on me and my fellow travelers.

Our itinerary, meticulously planned from morning till afternoon, promised excitement at every turn. One of the highlights was indulging in the renowned Michelin Guide street food, a gastronomic delight that introduced us to the vibrant flavors of Hong Kong’s culinary scene. Riding the Peak Tram to the iconic Peak was another unforgettable experience, offering breathtaking views of the city skyline that left us in awe.

However, the true essence of our trip lay in the unique opportunities we were granted to delve into the realm of hospitality and tourism management. Imagine our excitement when we were invited to join a class at the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, led by the esteemed Professor Doctor Louis Shih. Under his guidance, we delved into the intricacies of accommodation planning and brand management, gaining invaluable insights into the industry.

The following day, we were privileged to inspect the School of Hotel and Tourism Management and engage in a class with the esteemed Dean, Kaye Chon. His discourse on innovation in the hospitality world ignited our passion for the field, leaving us inspired to explore new horizons. Our visit to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) further enriched our understanding of the academic landscape and its pivotal role in shaping future leaders.

Amidst our educational pursuits, we savored the cultural delights of Hong Kong, including a visit to the Che Kung Temple and a delectable dim sum experience at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Venturing into the vibrant Sneakers Street and immersing ourselves in the artistic haven of M+ West Kowloon Cultural District provided us with glimpses into the city’s multifaceted identity.

The pinnacle of our trip arrived on day three, as we were granted an exclusive opportunity to visit the esteemed Rosewood Hong Kong Hotel. In the company of Mr. Gary Lin, Senior Talent Development Manager, we gained invaluable insights into the intricacies of hospitality management and witnessed firsthand the commitment to excellence that defines Rosewood’s success.

As our journey drew to a close, we found ourselves at the enchanting Disney Explorers Lodge Hong Kong, a whimsical retreat that captured the essence of childhood wonder. Our final destination, the iconic Monster Building Hong Kong, stirred a myriad of emotions within us, from awe at its architectural grandeur to a sense of nostalgia for the cinematic masterpieces it has graced.

Before bidding farewell to this captivating city, we stumbled upon a hidden gem—a local restaurant serving up authentic flavors that tantalized our taste buds and left us craving more.

Reflecting on our Hong Kong adventure, I am filled with gratitude for the myriad experiences that have enriched my understanding of hospitality, culture, and the boundless possibilities that await beyond the classroom. As we depart, we carry with us memories that will forever shape our journey through academia and beyond. Hong Kong, with its kaleidoscope of sights, sounds, and flavors, has left an indelible mark on our hearts. Until we meet again, 謝謝 (thank you), Hong Kong, for an unforgettable experience.
