Since July 2023, Dusit International has announced the resolution to follow Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) regarding the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the United Nations and initiated the Tree of Life Project in order to set up pathways to sustainability in 4 levels. The project encompasses 31 development criteria which lie on Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) and involves all businesses under Dusit International to drive these goals together.
Dusit Thani College, as an educational institution under Dusit International, has continuously supported the projects that align to the policy and directions of Tree of Life Project in order to achieve SDG frameworks. The college is dedicated to putting sustainable concepts into practices and creating tangible results such as forging the Energy Management and Sustainability Committee to transform the institution into a Green College, utilizing solar power to generate electricity for internal usage, installing composting machines to reduce food waste, and developing hospitality graduates with sustainable mindset and skill sets by integrating in-class and extracurricular activities focusing on social responsibility.
On the occasion of Dusit International reaching the 75th anniversary of its establishment, the group has kicked off Dusit Culture Day 2024 which opens opportunities for 75 teams from Dusit subsidiaries around the world to create 75 sustainable projects that make positive impacts to their communities as well as to encourage social gatherings which aim for sustainability. Accordingly, Dusit Thani College, led by the Department of Human Resources and Sustainability, IT and Innovation Cluster, has recently collaborated with Dusit Princess Srinakarin Hotel arranging Dusit Culture Day 2024 at a neighboring institution Kaenthong Upatham School. The college and the school have long been in a great relationship exchanging knowledge and skills as well as supporting each other. There have also been numerous workshops by Dusit Thani College’s instructors, staff, and students to upskill teachers and students of Kaenthong Upatham School using approachable resources.
In the opening ceremony, Ajarn Isaraporn Radapuprueksa, Director of Kaenthong Upatham School, honoredly gave a warm welcome speech before Dr. Atthawet Prougestaporn, Rector of Dusit Thani College, commenced the event that “Dusit International couldn’t have been together with Thailand for 75 years without the collaboration and creation of the communities who have cooperatively built sturdy fundamentals of the society. On the occasion of Dusit International celebrating its 75 anniversary and initiating Dusit Culture Day 2024, Dusit Thani College and Dusit Princess Srinakarin Hotel has joined hands to organize workshops at Kaenthong Upatham School to involve ourselves in building comprehensive sustainability in the society. The school has been in a close relationship with us for a long time. We have all withnessed the growth of each other throughout our relationship. The ideas of these workshops are to let the students maximize usage of the resources they can find around the community to benefit themselves, the school, and the community. This is to practice their abilities to think and to take actions for public purposes.”
The workshops included creating organic vegetable gardens with Aloe Vera and Pandan plants, creating desserts with Aloe Vera and Pandan leaves, and mastering the art of cooking with frog meat. Regarding the school’s frog farming, Dusit Thani College introduced 2 recipes of frog meat menus – Southern stir-fried frog meat with yellow curry paste and stir-fried frog meat with curry paste and ginger. The atmosphere of the event was full of joy and knowledge. Moreover, Dusit Thani College and Dusit Princess Srinakarin Hotel handed over fertilizers made from leftovers to the school for the use in the school’s organic gardens. This will create sustainability of food supply chain for the community.
Dusit Thani College, in collaboration with Dusit Princess Srinakarin Hotel, wishes that students at Kaenthong Upatham School are able to implement the knowledge learned from this workshop in their lives and develop these skills into professions. It would be better if they could also pass on the knowledge to surrounding people and communities in the future. This will lead to more sturdy fundamentals of the community and society.
