The Student Activities Department, Student Development Center, Student Affairs Division, Dusit Thani College, organized the “DTC Safe Ride Save Life” project on Saturday, November 23, 2024. The program aimed to raise awareness among students about traffic violations within the college and to educate them on properly adhering to traffic regulations.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. It directly supports Target 3.6, which seeks to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents by 2020.
The event featured a traffic police officer from the Pravet Metropolitan Police Station as a guest speaker to provide students with valuable knowledge on traffic safety.
Riding a motorcycle is one of the most convenient, agile, and fast ways to travel. However, it cannot be denied that motorcycles are among the most dangerous vehicles, posing significant risks of accidents. Here are some tips for riding a motorcycle safely:
- Check the vehicle’s condition before every trip to ensure it is ready and safe to use.
- Follow traffic rules and regulations at all times.
- Never drink and ride, as alcohol impairs judgment and reaction time.
- Avoid sudden lane changes or overtaking, as these can lead to unexpected accidents.
- Always wear a helmet, as it significantly reduces the risk of head injuries in the event of an accident.
By practicing these safety measures, riders can minimize risks and ensure safer journeys for themselves and others on the road.
Traffic Act B.E. 2522, Section 122 outlines the following regulations:
- Motorcycle riders and passengers must wear a safety helmet (a helmet specifically designed to protect against injury while riding or being a passenger on a motorcycle).
- Riders are prohibited from operating a motorcycle if their passenger is not wearing a safety helmet.
- The specifications and usage of safety helmets must comply with the guidelines stipulated by the Ministry’s regulations.
Failure to comply with these rules, such as riding or being a passenger without a helmet, carries a penalty of a fine not exceeding 2,000 baht (as per Section 19 of the 13th Amendment to the Traffic Act, B.E. 2565).
Let’s join the campaign to promote helmet use and ensure safe riding with the initiative “DTC Safe Ride Save Life.”
